Head of Tax Hire for Leading Recruitment Firm

The Brief

A leading recruitment firm specializing in Legal, Tax, Treasury, Governance, and Business Services sought to expand its service offering in the U.S. Already serving clients in Legal, Risk, and Compliance, the firm identified an opportunity to add staffing services that serve clients seeking specialists in Tax to its portfolio.

The firm engaged us to identify a Head of Tax to lead this new function. The ideal candidate needed to:

Have at least 5 years of experience Possess previous management experience Work in a hybrid capacity (4 days in-office per week) Operate in a full 360 role with a strong sales focus
Finding the right talent proved difficult, as most high performers in this niche were well-established at competing firms and unlikely to move.


The Brief

We expanded our approach beyond traditional tax recruitment. Leveraging our deep industry knowledge and long-standing relationships, we identified a strong candidate from the compliance and risk sector who was open to transitioning into tax recruitment. We had been working with this candidate for some time, understood their career situation and knew they were open to a new challenge. When this opportunity arose, we provided them with an update and arranged an informal meeting with the client.

Rather than a speculative approach, we ensured the candidate had a compelling reason to join. The growth potential within a small but expanding U.S. operation, the opportunity to build a team with significant investment in their success, and long-term equity incentives as the firm aimed for an acquisition within 4-5 years were all compelling reasons to move.

The client was able to see the candidate’s potential and moved forward quickly, taking the opportunity to act on our consultation, resulting in a successful hire.
